Bring Them Home Safe
Bring Them Home Safe
Know Me. Understand Me. Help Me Home.
The program creates a connection between individuals with disabilities and the first responders who may someday need to assist them.
It is designed for individuals who may wander, become lost, have difficulty communicating, not respond to their name, struggle to understand commands, become overwhelmed by lights or sirens, resist being touched, or have other disability-related behaviors that could make an emergency more complicated. Wandering is a recognized safety concern for people with developmental disabilities, and the CDC recommends current photos and descriptions, identification information, emergency planning, and alerting first responders.
The program has three main parts: families receive a Quick Reference Card to keep with their loved one; they receive a more detailed First Responder Profile that they control and can voluntarily provide to their local police, fire, sheriff or 911/dispatch agency if that agency accepts such information; and Kamp Kan hosts Meet Your First Responders opportunities where individuals can become familiar with uniforms, vehicles, equipment and responders in a calm, sensory-conscious setting.

Bring Them Home Safe is a Kamp Kan community safety initiative that helps individuals with disabilities, families and first responders prepare before an emergency occurs. Through personalized safety information, family-controlled first responder profiles, education and Meet Your First Responders events, we hope to help responders better recognize, understand and communicate with individuals who may need additional assistance. The program cannot prevent emergencies or guarantee someone's safe return—but it can help make families and communities better prepared when every minute matters.
